Homestake Lodge is a hidden gem in the Butte area. Only 15 to 20 minutes from Butte, Homestake Lodge has the best Nordic trails in the Butte area, and they are consistently well-maintained by the owners. Pricing is very reasonable for a family, and there's a variety of trails to suit classic and skates skiers of all levels.
Homestake lodge offers a variety of lodging options as well, including cabins and a yurt. Being from Butte I haven't stayed in them myself, but I've only heard good things. Be sure to reach out in advance to make sure there is space available.
2. Homestake lodge offers night skiing on Wednesday nights during the winter. Certain trails are lit by lamp light, which makes for a magical night of skiing. Get there early, ski a few laps, and hit the potluck afterwards.
We came up and did a snowshoe lesson with Hallie and it was absolutely awesome. Never considered myself a hiker, but snowshoes was a whole different game. Definitely one of our new favorite places around Butte.

Wonderful place with great views and a welcoming staff. We participated in a weekend wedding, staying at one of the cabins on-site and really enjoyed ourselves. Homestake had all the amenities needed to be comfortable (full kitchen, nice bathrooms, heated as well as wood burning stove) but none of the ones that would distract you from the location (internet, tv, etc). We would happily return.
Two quick tips:
Dogs are allowed, but only on certain designated trails. Look for the "paw print" signs, or grab a trail map before heading out.
1. Ski to the top of the pass on a bluebird day for an excellent view of the Jefferson River Valley and Tobacco Root mountains. It's not an easy climb, but it's well worth it.
